During my undergraduate studies, I participated in two internship programs that provided me with practical insights into the field of food and nutrition sciences. The first internship, at the Chongqing Institute for Food and Drug Control, allowed me to engage in tasks such as microbiological testing of food products and determining the acid and peroxide values of fats and oils. The hands-on experience not only enhanced my technical skills but also deepened my understanding of food safety and quality control. My second internship, which is scheduled for January 2025, will be conducted in the nutrition department of a hospital, where I will explore clinical nutrition practices.
While my social and professional experience is still limited, these internships have helped me realize the dual nature of food and nutrition science: it is a discipline with vibrant academic research but relatively constrained practical applications in daily life. This contrast has motivated me to pursue further academic research to bridge this gap, exploring innovative solutions that could make scientific findings more accessible and impactful in real-world contexts.
Looking ahead, I envision continuing my journey in academic research. Although I am uncertain about the precise trajectory of my future career, I am confident that further studies will equip me with the skills and knowledge needed to make meaningful contributions to the field. My current aspiration is to focus on the development of functional foods and the exploration of phytochemicals, such as capsaicin and polyphenols, to address pressing health challenges like obesity and chronic diseases.
